Before the Appointment, Remember This

Before the appointment, there is often a small moment in the car, in the bathroom, or in the waiting room where a woman wonders whether she is making too much of things. Please know this: wondering is reason enough to ask.
You can write your questions down and read them from the page. You can ask what something means. You can pause. You can say when you feel uncomfortable. Your voice belongs in the room as much as any file, form or result.
Bring the honest version of your story, not the neat one. The period that changed. The pain you kept working through. The worry you almost talked yourself out of saying. A good conversation begins with the truth, not with perfection.
You do not need to arrive brave. Arrive as you are. Let the appointment be one small act of listening to yourself.
